Agreement to Terms
By accessing our website or using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our services.
Services Provided
HandyPeople Emergency Services provides emergency and non-emergency handyman services in the Greater Victoria area, including but not limited to:
- Door and window repairs
- Lock and security repairs
- Storm damage repairs
- Drywall and wall repairs
- Fence and deck repairs
- General emergency repairs
Services We Do Not Provide
We are not licensed to perform work that requires specialized trade certification, including:
- Electrical work (requires licensed electrician)
- Plumbing work (requires licensed plumber)
- HVAC/heating systems (requires licensed HVAC technician)
- Gas line work (requires licensed gas fitter)
- Structural modifications (requires engineer approval)
If your emergency involves these services, we can provide temporary solutions and refer you to qualified professionals.
Booking and Scheduling
When you request service, our AI assistant or staff will book your appointment. You will receive confirmation via SMS or email. We will provide estimated arrival times, but actual arrival may vary due to traffic, weather, or prior job complexity.
Pricing and Payment
Emergency Service Rates
- Emergency Call-Out Fee: $150 (includes first 30 minutes of work)
- Hourly Rate (after first 30 minutes): $95/hour
- Materials: Cost plus 15% markup (major parts quoted separately)
Payment Terms
- Payment is due upon completion of service
- We accept cash, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), and e-Transfer
- A receipt will be provided for all services
Quotes and Estimates
Before beginning work, we will provide a written or verbal quote. If the scope of work changes during the job, we will inform you and obtain approval before proceeding. You have the right to decline additional work.
Cancellation Policy
- Cancellations made before technician dispatch: No charge
- Cancellations after technician dispatch: $75 trip fee may apply
- No-shows: Full call-out fee may be charged
We understand emergencies can be unpredictable. Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule.
Warranties and Guarantees
Workmanship Warranty
All repairs are covered by a 2-year workmanship warranty. If a repair we performed fails due to our workmanship within this period, we will repair it at no additional charge for labor.
Materials Warranty
Materials and parts are covered by their manufacturer's warranty. We will assist with warranty claims where applicable.
Satisfaction Guarantee
If you are not satisfied with our service, please contact us within 7 days. We will work to resolve the issue. If we cannot resolve it to your satisfaction, we will refund the labor portion of your payment.
Exclusions
Warranties do not cover:
- Damage caused by misuse, abuse, or neglect
- Modifications made by others after our repair
- Normal wear and tear
- Pre-existing conditions not caused by our work
- Acts of nature (storms, floods, earthquakes)
Liability
HandyPeople Emergency Services maintains $2,000,000 in general liability insurance and is WorkSafeBC compliant. However:
- Our liability is limited to the cost of the services provided
- We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental damages
- We are not responsible for pre-existing damage or conditions
- Property owners are responsible for disclosing known hazards
Property Access
By requesting service, you grant our technicians permission to access your property and the areas necessary to perform the requested work. You represent that you have the authority to grant such access (as owner, tenant, or authorized agent).
Customer Responsibilities
You agree to:
- Provide accurate information about the service needed
- Ensure safe access to the work area
- Disclose known hazards (asbestos, mold, etc.)
- Secure pets during service
- Be present or designate an authorized representative during service
- Pay for services as agreed
Intellectual Property
All content on this website, including text, images, logos, and design, is the property of HandyPeople Emergency Services and is protected by copyright law. You may not reproduce, distribute, or use our content without written permission.
Dispute Resolution
If a dispute arises, we encourage you to contact us first to attempt resolution. If we cannot resolve the dispute, it shall be settled through binding arbitration in Victoria, British Columbia, in accordance with the laws of British Columbia.
Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Changes will be effective upon posting to this website. Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.
Governing Law
These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada, without regard to conflict of law principles.
